The body of a swimmer who went missing at Hagg Lake Monday afternoon was found Tuesday morning, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies first responded at 2:17 p.m. Monday, July 26 to reports that a man had been seen by his family disappear under the water while swimming. The Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol, already on the lake, responded to search for the missing man, as did crews from Gaston Rural Fire District.
Joined eventually by the Lake Oswego Fire Department’s Dive Team and the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, searchers eventually halted efforts to find the swimmer due to extreme heat and concerns for the safety of search crew members, the sheriff’s office said.
After resuming the search Tuesday morning, the man’s body was discovered around 11 a.m. by divers from the Lake Oswego Fire Department near the Peninsula Trailhead.
A cause of death will be determined by the Washington County Medical Examiner’s Office, who responded Tuesday to investigate the death. The sheriff’s office said that there was no indication that foul play was involved in the man’s death, who will be named after the family is notified.
