The city of Banks will officially unveil a new sports court at Greenville City Park Thursday, August 25.

The idea to add a sports court at the park has been kicked around for a decade, and the final product to be unveiled was described by the city as “highly anticipated” in a press release.

Mayor Stephanie Jones and city staff will be on hand at 2 p.m. Thursday to cut the ribbon on the court, and will have a limited number of giveaway items to mark the occasion.

The final pieces of funding to build the park were approved earlier this year, though not without some controversy.

During a city council meeting, a terse exchange between City Councilor Erica Harold-Heine and Councilor Pete Edison led to Harold-Heine’s resignation.

To fund the court, the city had earlier sought a grant from the Oregon Local Government Grant Program, which funds local government agencies that are obligated by state law to provide public recreation facilities, but its application was not one of the final seven approved projects, leaving the city to fund construction.

Greenville City Park is located at 12700 NW Arbor Park Loop.
