The Banks Fire District will throw open the (bay) doors to the Banks Fire Station on October 11 from 12 to 4 p.m. for an open house to promote Fire Prevention Week.

"We're doing the afternoon so people can have their morning activities and just stop by in the afternoon," Banks Fire District Chief Rodney Linz said during a department update to the Banks Chamber of Commerce.

The event has typically started at 9 a.m. in years past.

"You can play with the fire hose," Linz promised, noting other activities, including fire truck rides, demonstrations, information on creating defensible space around one's residence, and tables from community groups and public safety agencies like the Oregon Department of Forestry, Banks Chamber of Commerce, Banks American Legion, and others.

The Banks Fire District has stations in Banks, Buxton and Timber. It can be found online at banksfire.org and by phone at 503-324-6262.

The Banks Fire Station is located at 13430 NW Main Street.
