Area residents can learn how to prepare for emergencies at a Red Cross presentation scheduled for Tuesday, September 24 at the Banks Public Library starting at 7 p.m.
The city is seeking nominations for the best of Banks' people. Residents and nearby community members who have made an impact through volunteer work and community involvement are eligible for the 2024 Banks Citizenship Award. Nominations are open until Sept. 30.
Deputies cited the driver of a Nissan Xterra for reckless driving after residents in Arbor Village called police, estimating the vehicle to have hit 60 mph in a 25 mph residential zone.
The Oregon Department of Transportation said a wildfire had resulted in the closure of Highway 26 at the Highway 6 junction north of Banks. It's believed two fires were sparked in the area from downed power lines and a farm vehicle mishap.
