Letters to the editor
We don’t have an “opinion desk,” but we value the voices of our readers. Here’s how to get your letter published.
The ground rules
We prioritize letters from readers within western Washington County and our immediate neighbors. Keep submissions between 100 and 350 words. We reserve the right to edit for clarity, spelling, and space. That said, shoddily written letters will not be published.
Verification
Include your name, address, and phone number. Your address and phone number are for verification only and will not be published. If you’re referencing a specific story, please include the headline.
Content & conduct
We don’t accept mass-distributed “form letters” — please write something unique to our community. We don’t allow letters written by AI tools. This is not a venue for unfounded accusations. We’ll reject letters that veer into the absurd or the defamatory. However, if you have proof of genuine local misconduct, don’t write a letter — contact our newsroom at 503-395-8131 or email us so we can investigate.
Our stance
We do not make political endorsements or opine on local topics, with two exceptions: legislation affecting public records and open government, or topics representing an existential threat to our community’s lives. We believe you want to read what we know, not what we think. As Forrest Gump famously said, “That’s all I have to say about that.”
To submit
Email your letter in the body of the email (no need for a separate attachment) to news@bankspost.com. Letters, if selected, may be published online and in print as space allows.
You can also mail letters to: Banks Post, P.O. Box 701, Forest Grove, OR 97116.
