Washington County announced it would open 24-hour inclement weather shelters at 12 p.m. Friday through at least Sunday, Jan. 25 at 12 p.m. as mid-20 degree weather is forecast.

"These beds supplement the Washington County emergency shelter program, which currently offers 440 beds/rooms to meet a variety of household needs including families with children, veterans, youth, and medically fragile individuals," the county said in a press release.

Shelters are located in Hillsboro (The Salvation Army Building, 1440 SE 21st Ave, Project Homeless Connect) and Tigard (Just Compassion Access Center and Shelter, 12264 SW Hall Blvd, Tigard). The Hillsboro shelter is a 45 minute bus ride from downtown Forest Grove on line 57.

"Hot meals are provided for guests, no one will be turned away, and pets are okay," the county said, noting that those with pets should be prepared to work with shelter staff to meet their individual policies.

The county urged anyone who sees someone unsheltered in the outdoors whose life appears to be in danger to call 911. Otherwise, people can also call Washington County non-emergency dispatch at 503-629-0111 to request a welfare check.

In case the weather event is extended, the county said updates and more information can be found online.
