The city of Banks has opened an application process to fill the remainder of a term vacated by the resignation of former Banks City Councilor Don Giannetti.
The vacant term, that of, City Council Position 2, will last through December 31, 2028.
Interested applicants must be at least 18 years old, be a registered voter, and have lived inside the Banks city limits for at least 12 months prior to their application.
A largely volunteer position—councilors get an annual reimbursement of $150—with responsibilities ranging from attending city council meetings to serving as a liaison with various other community and government boards, the position comes with the power to make decisions that affect those residing within Banks city limits.

The role comes with scrutiny, too. Councilors must follow public records laws and ethics rules, and may find their actions in the pages of local newspapers and across social media conversations.
After applying for the position, applicants will be interviewed during a city council work session, and then during a public meeting, a vote will be held to decide if an applicant will be chosen.
Those interested in the position were asked to contact Banks City Recorder and Assistant City Manager Angie Lanter at alanter@cityofbanks.org or 503-324-5112.
Applications are due by Friday, June 13 at 1 p.m.
