Good afternoon, Banks! We've completed the bulk of a migration to a completely new website platform and email system. Thanks for bearing with us. For those interested, we've used WordPress coupled with a variety of email newsletter options for our entire history. We're now on a platform called Ghost, which combines our publishing and email platform into one, which will make my life 200% easier! I'll be announcing some new features as we get them all hooked up, but for now, check out the events calendar toward the bottom of this email!

Braves choose homecoming court

On Friday, the school's homecoming game will be played against Kennedy High School.

The Braves, who've won every game in the season so far, will take on the Trojans starting at 7 p.m. at Kelley Field.

Local fire season to end Friday

Fire season in the northwest corner of the state will end Friday, Oct. 10 an Oregon Department of Forestry official said. Local fire agencies also lifted a burn ban Friday.

Banks Fire District to hold open house Oct. 11

The Banks Fire District will throw open the (bay) doors to the Banks Fire Station on October 11 from 12 to 4 p.m. for an open house to promote Fire Prevention Week.

Garibaldi driver killed in Highway 6 crash

A Garibaldi woman is dead after a Washington driver drove into oncoming traffic on Highway 6 just west of the Washington and Tillamook County line Friday, Oregon State Police said.

Washington County Open Studios Tour is Oct. 18 - 19

The Washington County Open Studios Tour will return to the county on October 18 and 19, with more than 60 artists across 50 locations opening their workspaces to visitors, including in the Banks area.

Register to vote by Oct. 14 to vote on library, police levies in November

Western Washington County voters will have two questions on their ballots. The Washington County Sheriff's Office and the county's library system are each seeking replacement levies that will increase property taxes.

1925 in Banks: Hillside students show up for school to no teacher

A local school board furiously called the county superintendent when the teacher didn't show on the first day of school. As it turns out, it was their fault: They had botched the opening day of the Hillside school. The teacher wasn't contracted to start until the next week.

Federal judge bars Trump administration from sending any National Guard troops to Portland

After Judge Karin Immergut’s Saturday order preventing mobilization of the Oregon National Guard, the federal government ordered first California and then Texas troops to Portland.
