The city of Banks now has two stoplights.
The city of Banks and Washington County said the stoplight at the north end of town would be lighted Wednesday evening, doubling the amount of active traffic signals in Banks.
"Please slow down when approaching the intersection and be patient while everyone adjusts to the new traffic control," the county said. ODOT crews and flaggers were expected to be on scene while the light was tested.
The project to redesign and light the intersection has been a lengthy one, resulting in snarled traffic in the north part of Banks for much of this year.
The location, at Main Street, Banks Road, and Cedar Canyon Road, has resulted in a multiagency effort to complete the work. Main Street is also Highway 47, which drew the Oregon Department of Transportation into the project, while the city and county have also been involved in the project.
The project is nearly complete, the county said, noting that after the signal is activated, a new "Welcome to Banks" sign will be installed at the intersection.
