A person was struck by a car on Highway 26 in Buxton, Oregon State Police said, after the person walked onto the highway near Fisher Road in the evening
According to a written report compiled by OSP, a white Chevy driven by a Hillsboro resident was traveling west on Highway 26 when a 32-year-old Vancouver resident entered the westbound lane.
OSP said the driver of the Chevy was unable to avoid a collision, striking the pedestrian.
The pedestrian was transported via a LifeFlight helicopter to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland with injuries described as serious, but non-life threatening.
The highway was closed for several hours as responding agencies, including the Banks Fire District, OSP, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, LifeFlight and others worked to clear and investigate the scene of the crash.
A west-pointing ODOT traffic camera at Staley’s Junction showed stopped traffic returning from the coast stretching as far as the camera could make out.

Update: Highway 26 has reopened to traffic.
A crash in Buxton on Highway 26 near Fisher Road has resulted in a highway closure, with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office saying the crash involved a car and a pedestrian.
One patient was transported to a hospital via a Life Flight helicopter. Emergency crews are on scene investigating the crash, which has snarled weekend traffic returning from the coast.
“Long delays are expected,” the sheriff’s office said.
