City water customers north of Highway 26 on boil water notice due to 400 gallon per minute leak
Customers on Banks’ municipal water system north of Highway 26, an area outside city limits, were having their water turned off, the city said Wednesday afternoon. No reason was given, but more information was promised.
Power’s out in Banks, school will release at regular time Thursday
In Banks and North Plains and the rural areas surrounding them, close to 3,500 customers were without power. The Banks School District said that all power was out, which was also affecting phone and internet service.
“All schools will dismiss at the regular time,” the district said.

While most of Banks had originally been slated to avoid an intentional power shutoff, residents in the city are without power anyway following what PGE described as a downed tree on a power line. A small brush fire on the western edge of town was extinguished with the quick action of neighbors, Banks Fire said.

Power will be shut off in an effort to reduce wildfire risk in ten areas across PGE’s service territory starting Friday. In Gales Creek, power will be cut sometime between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday, and may be restored starting Saturday evening.
