Banks City Councilor Don Giannetti resigned Tuesday, according to an item added to the city council’s meeting agenda. He was just four months into what would have been his first full term on the council.
Giannetti was first appointed Jan. 9, 2024, to fill the remainder of former Banks City Councilor Jeff Thompson’s Position 2 seat. Thompson resigned in 2023 due to health concerns. Giannetti later won election to a full four-year term in November 2024.

He ran unopposed, winning the seat with almost 97.8% of the vote.
Tuesday, April 8, just hours before the Banks City Council regular meeting is scheduled to be held, Giannetti resigned, according to an amended agenda published on the city’s website.
No reason for his resignation was given. An email to Giannetti and a public records request to the city were not immediately returned.
Tuesday’s agenda was amended to include a resolution for councilors to vote on, declaring Giannetti’s seat open and launching a recruitment process to fill it by appointment.
In recent resignations, the Banks City Council has held candidate interviews during a work session, then voted to appoint a new councilor at a subsequent business meeting.
