Banks April 2025 Police Log

As presented to the Banks City Council on May 13 by Deputy Frank Ward with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. The Banks Post does not write, edit, or alter the contents of the police log.

Verbal argument – NW Main St – Deputes were dispatched to respond to a report of a disturbance. Deputies arrived on scene and spoke with the person that had called 911. Deputies learned that a male and female were arguing about cheating. During the argument the male broke several picture frames and left prior to police arrival.

Fraud – NW Buckshire Ct – An elderly person fell victim to a phone scam. The scammer texted claiming to be from PayPal and there was a problem with a withdrawal from their account and to text back to clarify the issue. The victim texted back as per the directions. After some back and forth with the scammer, the victim withdrew a large amount money, the used a “bitcoin” machine to send it to the scammers.

I want to remind and warn folks of potential scammers. A current trend is a text message informing folks of a missed toll booth fee, the above bitcoin. Another very common scam and fraud is folks are able to buy personal information on the dark web and open accounts in the victim’s name.
Scammers also call, and tell victims that they are Deputy “So and So” and that you have missed jury duty and have a warrant. The scammer claims that if you pay a certain amount of money the warrant will go away. The sheriff’s office will never call and demand money.
