BUXTON – Stub Stewart State Park is host to a variety of activities — disc golf, horseback riding, mountain biking, to name a few — but for one night on Saturday, July 13, the park’s Hilltop location will transform into a movie theater for a free showing of Star Trek 2: The Wrath Of Khan.

The William Shatner-led flick features Admiral James T. Kirk and the crew of the starship USS Enterprise facing off against the genetically engineered tyrant Khan Noonien Singh, played by Ricardo Montalbán.

It’s considered by many to be one of the best entries in the original Star Trek movies, and features an iconic moment, when Shatner bellows his oft-memed cry:

“Khaaan!”

The showing, hosted by Hollywood Theatre, starts at dusk, with signage pointing visitors to the temporary theater’s location.

A press release promoting the picture shed some light on the history of screening a sci-fi film and other movies in Oregon State Parks. “Since 2016, the Hollywood Theatre has partnered with the Oregon State Parks Department to produce a series of screenings in Oregon Sate Parks. All parks in the series are within an hour’s drive of Portland, with the film programming selected to complement the diverse features of each park. This series encourages Oregonians to explore the amazing recreational amenities our parks have to offer, including hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, kayaking, camping, picnicking and more.”
