BANKS - A volunteer-organized Red Cross blood drive will be held on Friday, February 8 from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Banks Fire District 13 training room, located at 13430 NW Main Street in Banks.

Paula Jacobs, a local resident who organized this and other blood drives in Banks in the past two years, says that the events are usually well-supported.

"It's a pretty amazing community that once you put the call out, they step up," Jacobs said.

Interested donors, who must be at least 17 (or 16 with parental consent) years of age, can set up an appointment by visiting www.redcrossblood.org and entering the sponsor code BanksFire to be taken to the list of available appointments.

You can also call 1-800-RED-CROSS to set up an appointment, or simply drop in during the drive's open hours.

A full list of eligibility requirements can be found here.

Jacobs got her start volunteering with the Red Cross in 2005, helping students at the Beaverton School District—she works at the Beaverton High School—set up blood drives.

The Banks Fire District provides the space for the blood drives organized by Jacobs, and volunteer crews at the Banks station clear the training room for the drive in preparation for the dries, said Jacobs.

Her husband, Rodney Jacobs, is a firefighter with the district.
