Fatal crash closes Highway 6 just west of Banks

BANKS – A crash on Highway 6 near mile post 48, roughly 1 mile west of Banks, has halted traffic near a construction zone, with a vehicle severely damaged after it was involved in a collision with a tractor-trailer.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the tractor-trailer was stopped for road construction when the car crashed into it.

The passenger of the car died on the scene, an the driver of the car will be investigated for a possible DUII.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office and an eyewitness confirmed at least one person had died as a result of the crash.

A photo shared with the Banks Post & Gales Creek Journal by Gales Creek Church of God pastor Tim Townley shows a vehicle that appears to have struck the rear of the tractor-trailer, scattering debris across the highway.

According to Townley and the Oregon Department of Transportation, Highway 6 is closed.

The Oregon State Police are investigating.
